Super SocksIs a sock just a sock? Is there really that much of a difference
between a sock made from moisture managing materials versus that everyday
sock that you can buy inexpensively and in bulk at your local Target-like
store? We say the answer is unwaveringly yes.
There is definitely a difference! Your socks can make a difference
in your comfort level and enjoyment of your walk, run or ride and
can certainly lead to happier feet.
Consider the following the next time you are asked whether
or not a sock is just a sock:
-
Cotton Is Rotten & Should Be Forgotten:
We know that we have repeated ourselves quite a bit on this one but
cant say it enough. Cotton socks for running or riding should
long be forgotten. A sock made from moisture managing materials
like CoolMax® will keep your feet dryer, blister free and more
likely to be fungus free thus avoiding the rotten part!
-
Socks Do Come in All Shapes & Sizes: Just
like every shoe wont work for the same foot so goes the theory
on socks. Your choice of socks in terms of thick, thin or somewhere
in between is an individual choice. It does matter though if
your socks are too big or too small. Socks that dont fit
right cant always do their job and may cause blistering, pain
and other uncomfortable ailments for your feet.
-
Dont Leave Your Socks on For Hours After
Your Runs or Rides: Okay folks, we think some of the
socks out there on the market do a great job but they arent
necessarily the miracle worker of socks. Next time you plan
to go on a long run or ride throw an extra pair of
socks in your car or your bag. After you finish your workout
go ahead and change your socks so that your feet can air out and dont
wind up sitting in the wet and dirt you are trying to protect them
from.
-
Socks Do Wear Out: This is back to that notion
of a super sock out there. We know that moisture managing socks
can cost a lot more than your average cotton sock. Keep in mind
though that if you are washing the socks day after day, week after
week and throwing them in the dryer they are going to shrink, wear
down and most likely get lost somewhere with all of the other socks
that the dryer tends to eat! Consider replacing your socks at
least on an annual basis.
New Socks? There is nothing like a new pair of socks to go with those
new shoes and NOTHING can improve a run or a ride in older shoes like
a fresh new pair of socks - perfect for that big race or training event.
Have a good riding and running week!
